Arvo Pärt

Paide Estonia
Arvo Pärt was a Russian musician strongly influenced by Shostakovics and Bartok whose work is divided into two periods.
His twelve-tone and serial language caused the Russian government to censor some of his works such as “Credo” with a religious character.
Between 1968 and 76 Pärt isolates himself due to an existential and creative crisis and immerses himself in a deep search through Early music, plainchant and Renaissance polyphony.
In 1980 he went into exile with his family to Vienna.
I recommend this interview that Bjork does with Arvo Pärt where we can observe his spiritual depth and need for space.
